Volunteer / Intern Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Will I Have To Be In The Videos I Produce for This Role?
This is a creative role, not a performer role. So you do not need to be in the videos or audio, unless you really want to.
Generally, you will not need to appear in the videos, though you may want to provide voice over (optional not required), the videos will be created by you but can use our extensive stock of thousands of videos and photos, and other tools to put them all together showing our programs, etc.
May I use Tools like Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), ChatGPT OpenAI, etc. to Meet my Assignment Goals?
We are a research company, so we love using new tools to solve challenges. That being said, there are important considerations you need to follow as listed below.
If you use any AI tools, you MUST inform your supervisor that you did so. You must specific exactly which tools you used, and which content.
There are legal concerns so we want to be careful.
Please do not use ML / AI Artificially generated voices, even the best ones are off-putting (uncanny valley).
You may use such tools as a rough draft to get yourself started if you wish, but do not try to pass off a work as something you did all by yourself if you used any AI tools. Be clear about which parts you did yourself versus which parts are generated content from elsewhere.
What software do you use for your video editing ?
We use mostly open source tools for almost everything we do.
With Video editing there are many opensource tools, but we do have some other tools we like to use as well.
You may use your favorite video editor. If you do not have one, we recommend getting the free version of DaVinci's Resolve, we use the full paid version ourselves, but the free version is feature rich enough for this role.
Q. After the internship do you provide full time opportunities within the company and or associates?
The non-profit 501(c)3 RPG Research is a 100% unpaid volunteer-run organization, while the for-profit RPG Therapeutics LLC has employees. We happily accept people joining as volunteers after their internship to keep growing their skills, networking, experience, etc. Most of our volunteers stick around part-time for many years, some are coming up on a decade. RPG Therapeutics LLC generally hires from the best volunteers at RPG Research, but they need to have enough years of proven experience before hired by the for-profit. There is not a direct path from this internship to being hired at RPG Therapeutics, just an indirect path through RPG Research.
Q. Do you guys do training on SEO
We can teach you some basic core considerations, but we're not experts. We were for years number one on all search engines, so we know some of the tricks of the trade, but it is not our specialty. But we can definitely help with some of the approaches and caveats.
Q. Will the schedule be under a professional time frame meaning I'm given what to do and how with schedule or do i to figure out stuff by watching prerecorded videos?
The page with the position description details the week by week schedule, You will meet with your mentor each week for 1-2 hours (and additional time if help needed). For the 90 day internships, you will put in at least 9 hours and not more than 10 hours of work as an intern. You will be provided a lot of resources, and guided through iterations with significant creative freedom to experiment, but your mentor will always guide you alone the process and approve your work or kick it back for revision before it is posted publicly. For the volunteer version of the role, you can work anywhere from 3 to 10 hours, never more than 10 per week, most average around 4-6 hours per week for the non-intern volunteer role.
Q. Will This Lead Straight to a Full-Time Paid Job?
The non-profit 501(c)3 RPG Research is a 100% unpaid volunteer-run organization. No one at the organization is paid, including the founders, executive staff, and board of directors members. The for-profit RPG Therapeutics LLC has paid employees. If someone initially joins as an intern, we happily accept people transitioning to RPG Research as regular volunteers after their internship to keep growing their skills, networking, experience, etc. We generally try to keep our volunteers from doing more than 10 hours per week, most average around 2 to 6 hours per week.
Most of our volunteers stick around part-time for many years, some are coming up on a decade with the company because it is such a great experience!
RPG Therapeutics LLC generally hires from the best-of-the-best volunteers at RPG Research. Though RPG Therapeutics has interviewed hundreds (thousands now?) of people applying to work for the for-profit company, so far only those that have volunteered through RPG Research for 1 or more years have actually been hired by RPG Therapeutics LLC. All candidates need to have understanding of the unique approaches we take and enough years of proven experience before hired by the for-profit.
There is not a direct path from this internship to being hired at RPG Therapeutics, just an indirect path through RPG Research.
Many of our volunteers and interns have gotten jobs during or after working for RPG Research, in many different fields.
We don't have a formal job placement division, but for those that do a good job, we are able to provide great references that have helped others get the job of their choice.
Q. Is there anyone else on the team that I will interact regularly with?
You will have at least one senior mentor assigned to supervise and train you weekly, typically for 1-2 hours per week in meetings, and additional hours as needed throughout the week to help you get off and running.
You may also optionally be assigned other mentors, and may in some cases be part of a team or entire department of others working in your area cooperatively to achieve goals.
Q. What specific skills/deliverables do you expect from me?
This is detailed in the position description with the week-by-week schedule laying out the specific deliverables expected.
Q. What specific marketing skills will I learn by working with you?
Working with enterprise software, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools, social media tools, photo, audio, and video post-production, transitions, editing, revisions, iterations, etc.
Q. Do you provide sponsorship, visas, or other options for the USA or other countries?
We are not able to provide H1-B or other types of citizenship or work visas, or related sponsorships.
