Position requires to be on site, in the broadcast studio, in northern Spokane, Washington.

Reports To: Production Director

Days/Hours: Part-time, 4-5 hours/week. Some flexibility on which days and times.

RPG Research prolifically creates anywhere from 1 to 10+ live streaming videos and prerecorded video and audio content per week, related to our Mission, Vision and Impact statements.

We regularly steam on Youtube, Twitch, and other platforms, as well as upload media content to various other locations at last half a dozen times a week.

Most of our content is in our 2-set studio, but some broadcasts occasionally take place at other on-location sites.

Our media production department is small but rapidly growing, and the webcast streaming and production technicians play a vital role in the growth and quality of these programs.

We expect technicians will grow their skills in this dynamic and innovative environment.

1. RPG Research has been involved with role-playing games since the 1970s and researching their effects since 1983. We have also helped run programs in schools since 1985, and in therapeutic settings since 2004.
2. We have been offering the world's most comprehensive repository of research information on role-playing games, freely and openly, online since 2004.
3. We are a 100% volunteer-run international research & human services 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization.

This role has two core functions:

1. on-site in-studio live webcast production
2. pre/post production tasks.

More specifically, volunteers in this role are expected to:

1. setup and prepare for at least one webcast per week.
2. setup lighting
3. setup cameras
4. setup audio
5. setup broadcast computers
6. control broadcast overlays using Open Broadcast Server (OBS) and other tools
7. setup streams or upload pre-recorded videos
8. dynamically switch lighting, audio, video, cameras, and overlays during broadcasts as needed
9. preparation of post-production deliverables, including archive videos and webcast analytics.
10. meet once per week for 1-2 hour administrative and/or training meetings (sometimes online/remote meetings)

Additional optional tasks:

1. Refinement of our webcasting rigs: selecting, testing and integrating new equipment and software
2. Assist the production team with the technical aspects of all productions including site survey, equipment pack-up, set-up, production, strike, and equipment storage.
3. Participate as an assigned crew member for various productions. Assigned crew responsibilities include all studio and field positions.
4. Develop production skills as camera operator, technical director, audio person, studio supervisor, teleprompter, lighting technician, and other key roles as team grows.
5. Assist producers in creation and coordination of program production.
6. Assist with studio set-up and facilities oversight.
7. Maintain and follow all production and post-production procedures.

This role would be a good fit for someone with 1-2+ years of professional (or relevant educational/internship) experience in AV or video production. Or a film student needing to acquire volunteer or internship hours.

There are many specific skills involved in producing a live webcast, and we don’t expect applicants will have them all right off the bat. We are more interested in making sure people in this role have the ability to acquire new skills quickly, will stick around with us long enough to turn their training into helpful skills to improve our production quality, before the move on in their career. We ask that you plan for a minimum 6 month commitment.

Strong candidates will have several of the below:

1. HD camera experience.
2. Webcam experience.
3. Broadcast switcher hardware/software experience.
4. Live streaming experience.
5. Familiarity with audio-visual fundamentals
6. Experience with streaming to Youtube and Twitch.
7. Experience with Open Broadcast Server (OBS).
8. Familiar with and possess advanced technical skills including camerawork, lighting, live streaming and non-linear editing.
